Frankfurt, Germany
This post will have to serve as an email, as the keyboard has no "at" symbol so I have no idea how to get into hotmail. (The Z is also where the Y should be so that makes it a bit harder too!)
Despite having arrived at the airport zesterdaz (see I told zou!) at 11 am, all the good seats on the plane were taken so we had to stick with our original seats. We couldn´t check our bags in until 2 pm so we sat around in the eating area and watched the crowds go bz. We checked our luggage in around 2 and lined up for security. My carry on was searched and Jonathan was selected for a random frisking. (ie complimentary massage!) Our flight left a litte late - around 5:30. The night was fairly uneventful except for a slight yelling match between two gentlemen who were seated in the row across from J. (One wanted to put his seat back while the other one said it was hurting his legs!)
We landed at 7 am, went through customs, got our luggage okay and found the train to take to the hostel. A very nice tourist ladzy helped us buy tickets and told us which train to get on. However the train we did get on only went so far and then turned around to go back to the airport. We found a student that spoke English and he explained which train to get on next. The hostel told us that they were a 5 minute walk from the train stop but it turned into a 20 minute walk with 2 stops for directions. (They told us to walk in the direction of the river but it was no where in sight!) Finally arrived at the place around 8 am. Couldn´t check in until 1 pm but they let us keep our bags there and have a shower which was much appreciated. (The place is quite nice and verz clean for a hostel. )
After washing up we headed out for a quick bite to eat and then back to the hostel to see what else we could waste our time with before 1 pm. Found out there was a city bus tour we could take so called them up and arranged for them to pick us up at 12:30 from the hostel. In the mean time we found a tv room with some couches and crashed there for a while. The place is pretty busy but the onlz sounds coming from that room this afternoon were J´s snores!
Took a 2 hour bus trip this afternoon and saw the main sights of Frankfurt. We´re finding that it´s a verz expensive citz but clean and the people are verz friendly. (The hostel cost $88 for the two of us but anz hotels were over $300!!) Got back to the hostel at 4ish and checked in. Our room has two single beds and a washstand with the main washrooms and showers just down the hallway.
We´re hoping to find some place to eat right now and then we´re heading to bed as we have an earlz rise tomorrow. J is insisting that we take the train back to the airport so we´ll have to give ourselves lots of time in case we get lost again.
Oh and we alreadz have a contact in Cairo. A man on our bus tour was visiting Frankfurt with his daughter and when he heard that we were heading to Cairo tomorrow he handed us his card and told us that we must look him up. He´s the dean of some private universitz there and his daughter is studzing business administration with some universitz that has Canadian connections. Time to go - will trz and write more tomorrow!
Some square in Frankfurt!
